Ignatian Immersion & Solidarity Program

Pedro Arrupe, SJ (Former Superior General, Society of Jesus)

Today our prime educational objective must be to form men and women for others; men and women who live not for themselves but for God and his Christ …men and women who cannot even conceive of love of God which does not include love of the least of their neighbors—for the God man who lived and died for all the world; men and women completely convinced that love of God which does not issue in justice for people is a farce.
The Ignatian Immersion & Solidarity Program at Regis Jesuit High School builds upon itself so that each year students are encouraged to expand and deepen their commitment to becoming Men and Women with and for Others.

Program Requirements

List of 4 items.

  • Freshman Year

    Who is My Neighbor?
Freshmen will complete 10 documented hours serving their local community in conjunction with a program or nonprofit organization whose principal aim is to meet the needs of underserved members of our community. Students may start to fulfill their community engagement requirements as early as June prior to their freshman year.
  • Sophomore Year

    Living in Kinship
Sophomores will complete 20 documented hours serving their local community in conjunction with a program or nonprofit organization whose principal aim is to meet the needs of underserved members of our community. All sophomores also participate in a Sophomore Community Day which accounts for five of their required hours. The students spend this school day volunteering at different organizations throughout the greater Denver area.
  • Junior Year

    Building Bridges
During junior year, students expand their experience of community engagement by recognizing and sharing in the diverse gifts people have to offer, especially people most marginalized from society. Students work two weeks in the spring as full-time volunteers with one agency, completing at least 60 hours of community engagement. To further explore and reflect on what it means to be Men and Women with and for Others in daily life, students need to complete another 10 hours of direct engagement with underserved members of our community.
  • Senior Year

    Pursuing Justice
During senior year, students are called to deepen their understanding of accompaniment with the vulnerable and marginalized. All seniors have the opportunity to enroll in a semester-long immersion course, during which they will spend approximately a week in direct engagement with the community they learn about during the course. Immersions take place locally, nationally and internationally. Seniors who opt not to enroll in an immersion course must complete 25 hours of engagement on their own.
