Opening to McNicholas Green, McNicholas Plaza is a 4000-square-foot multi-purpose outdoor patio space conducive to student learning, collaborating and community building. Central on campus, this is an ideal location to host both small and large community events as well as our hallmark school events such as the All-School Mass of the Holy Spirit and the Boys and Girls Graduation Ceremonies. A focal point of the plaza are the bands of engraved pavers where alumni, parents, employees and friends have commemorated their love for Regis Jesuit with personalized dedications. Prominently located at the front entrance of the Science & Innovation Center, the new Admissions Welcome Center provides an inviting and warm welcome to prospective students and families. This friendly first experience of our campus sets the tone for the lifelong care and support that Raiders receive at Regis Jesuit throughout their four years as students and beyond as Raider alums. Positioned adjacent to the new McCallin Alumni Center, prospective students and families will immediately experience our strong Raider pride in our nearly 150-year-old institution, which comprises more than 14,000 alumni. The new McCallin Alumni Center is a dedicated space that unites our alumni and student engagement efforts. Prominently located on the first floor of the Science & Innovation Center, adjacent to the Admissions Office, our vision for this space and the RJ Connect program is to show proudly that being a Raider does not end when you receive a diploma. Through open and visible spaces, our community will witness firsthand the power of an alumni network and RJ Connect program, providing our students and alumni with the knowledge, resources and support to become complex problem solvers. In addition to its many classrooms, meeting rooms and labs, the Science & Innovation Center also hosts many informal learning and gathering places designed intentionally throughout the building for students to hang out, collaborate and study. Both its large and more intimate multi-use spaces on the first and second floors, such as The Gallery, feature large windows that fill the space with natural light, optimal for creative thinking and collaboration as well as gatherings and presentations. Adjacent to the main stairway, the Learning Steps offer wide, bench-like seating where students, alumni, teachers and others can gather to learn, socialize, collaborate and relax. This versatile space will be used as an informal classroom, an indoor amphitheater and a flexible gathering space for all to connect. As a prime location for hosting campus events, the SIC is outfitted with two catering kitchens, one on each floor, to support our many events and social gatherings. In addition, the Science Department faculty now have a new work area and meeting space to office, collaborate and build an interdisciplinary curriculum. Located on the second floor of the Science & Innovation Center, The Gallery is an 800-square-foot multi-purpose space designed for student presentations, classes, informal student hangouts and school events. The windows and glass doors lining the east wall offer wonderful natural light and high visibility, making this space terrific for school events that can flow from the indoors to the outdoors onto McNicholas Plaza and out to McNicholas Green. Its student-centric design, fitted with both a cozy seating area and a bar-style workspace which faces a large feature wall housing nine screens, will allow for a multitude of uses for our school community. The Gallery is dedicated to Fr. Jim Goeke, SJ, former math teacher and Jesuit Community Superior who still serves as a member of our Board of Trustees, in appreciation for his commitment to seeking authentic relationships with RJ students, faculty and families and his incredible fandom for Raider athletics and activities. The new 1600-square-foot RJ Media Center is twice the size of the program's original location in the Steele Center, providing abundant space to grow this popular program that serves nearly 700 students in its classes and clubs. Highlights of the media center include professional-grade software and hardware, a large, high-quality video wall for television broadcasts and a stage for newscasts and other presentations. Student journalists work on photography, design, reporting, writing and multimedia production to produce content for the student-run Elevate magazine, RJ Media Now website, RJTV (broadcast Fridays in every classroom on campus), RJ Radio podcasts, Raider Sports Network and more. We are confident that this new cutting-edge creation space will provide students with industry skills to excel in communicating, collaborating and creating quality media content. The new 8000-square-foot Innovation Center provides technological resources for students to explore entrepreneurial, scientific, creative and artistic solutions to problems posed in classrooms, found in their lives, or outlets for their interests. It features a spacious multi-use floorplan, dedicated computer and robotics labs, advanced materials workshop and direct access to the Innovation Patio that extends the classroom into an outdoor space. This interdisciplinary, state-of-the-art facility provides a flexible learning environment for innovative project design and development, allowing students to engage with technology through the hands-on use of computer-aided design, 3D printers, laser cutters/engravers and other advanced as well as traditional materials and tools. Students enrolled in a wide range of courses, from robotics and rocketry to graphic design and sculpture, will create and innovate in this new space. The 65,000-square-foot Science & Innovation Center officially opened this week! Students enrolled in a biology, chemistry or physics course this semester will have the opportunity to experience at least one of the 13 state-of-the-art science classrooms, each offering increased lab space and enhanced safety equipment to allow students to perform complex experiments safely. Adjacent prep rooms for each discipline allow for proper materials storage and ready accessibility by faculty. These classrooms centralize our science disciplines and were designed with flexibility, adaptability and safety in mind so we can be at the forefront of science education for years to come. We are confident these classrooms will enhance our students' learning experience and challenge them to become bright and bold scientists and leaders, guided by our science teachers who can now work more collaboratively!
