AUTHENTIC KENTUCKIANS
Today each group returned to their site, which led to deeper reflections on our interactions with the members of the community.
We always start out with a delicious breakfast I’m so grateful to have every day. We chat and yap each other's ears off and just have fun until we leave to our sites. I (Brittany) wanted to talk more about my favorite people I’ve met such as Gail, Jerry, and Cathy. They have been so welcoming, and I am so grateful it makes me want to take their most valuable traits back with me, In turn I want to leave behind the impact we all made so the community doesn’t lose hope and keeps improving in their own way.
As for my (Alyssa's) site, I’ve really appreciated Rick, our Hand in Hand contractor. He’s taught us how to put up drywall and stick on the plaster, but beyond that, he’s opened up about his childhood, family, and personal life. Rick has been so sweet and helpful, and I’ve found that even though he’s typically quiet, just sipping his coffee and smoking, he’s eager to open up if you give him the right topic. Rick, as well as the others that Brittany mentioned have really impacted us all over the past week. Coming back home, I’m looking forward to bringing back their compassion and sincerity. Overall we had a great day, and I’m looking forward to getting to know Rick, Gail, and the others more tomorrow. See ya soon!
