HEARING GOD’S VOICE: FINDING HIS PRESENCE IN OUR EXPERIENCES, SURROUNDINGS, AND ENCOUNTERS

Charles Sharp'25
In the stillness of reflection, we have come to realize how deeply God speaks to us—sometimes in whispers, other times through vivid moments in our daily lives. He’s present in the beauty of creation, the kindness of strangers, and even in the challenges that shape us. As we look around, our experiences, environment, and encounters have become a tapestry of His guidance and love.
Today was the second day of camp! We started the day with an early wake up from “los gallos” or roosters as you might say. Breakfast was a very native dish of yuca and carne de res. It was an excellent source of energy for the rest of the day. Once we got to the campsite, we set up the activities for the day and waited for the children to arrive. As the kids started to pile in, we saw familiar faces as well as a few new ones. As per usual, we started with an ice breaker and then got straight into the activities. Today the theme was “La Naturaleza” and we had some great activities to go with it. The first station was a game similar to musical chairs, but incorporated elements of nature into it. For example, the leaders of the group were to act as trees, and the kids would run to them and whoever couldn’t find a tree would be out. The next station was “Simon says” which was definitely a little more well known. Lastly there was a game called sharks and minnows which is similar to tag. To wrap up the morning we took the kids on a short nature walk to collect items for an art project. They were told to pick up ten total items along the way. It could have been trash or it could have been a piece of nature, but they just had to be able to hold it. Once we returned, all the kids and leaders formed groups and got to work. All the projects were very unique and special to each of the kids.
As we walked to lunch with all the kids, they showed us their dance moves as well as anything they had in their backpacks. Today we had spaghetti with a traditional chicken dish along with some patacones. The food was incredible, but also sitting and speaking with the kids made it better. We spoke about anything that could come to mind and even if someone couldn’t understand, we made it work!
After all the kids left for the day, we went on a beautiful walk with incredible views the whole way. As we walked down this trail, I began to think of all the amazing things this place has to offer. We are all super excited about the rest of the week and the activities planned throughout it. I am most excited for the special flower garden tomorrow!
