Immersion Experience: Honduras

TEGUCIGALPA: DAY 5

By Marisol Shukie ‘25 and Jack Dailey ‘25
Today was our last day in the Buen Samaritano community before we go to San Pedro Sula.
After we arrived, the community members told us to relax and play soccer with the kids. A lot of realization was made about the work we were meant to do there. This was an immersive trip, where we get to truly encounter each other as two different communities and cultures, and show each other how we give and receive love. We gave our presence as well as received the gift of theirs. After our goodbyes, we were able to tell that we were able to make a connection with the people we’ve encountered. Then, us and some of the scholars got to experience going to a beautiful cathedral and partake in a short mass together. We got to encounter the beauty of something sacred together and be with each other for that. This evening, the topic of love was mentioned a lot in a reflection using The First Principle and Foundation. We also talked about the fact that we can be blinded by distractions such as technology, applying for college, or personal lives when we return. Our goal is to not forget what we learned here but carry with us throughout our lives.
