Immersion Experience: Honduras

SAN PEDRO SULA: DAY 4

Ryan Di Tanna '25 and James Paul '25
Today was a day full of connection, through a lens of fun, sports, and popular Honduran activities. We also gave out food to the community and started to begin work on the football (soccer) field.
We had a semi late start to the day and enjoyed breakfast together. We then set out for the football field where we were greeted warmly by the Honduran scholars we have begun getting to know. We discussed how much easier it was for all of us to communicate and connect through sports and activities we partook in rather than the work we had been doing prior. When the environment was surrounded by fun and joy, we found that everyone involved was more inclined to engage in small or large conversations whether we fully understood one another or not. We were thrown into a circle of keep away, jump rope, conversations with scholars, which all evolved into a large game of football which everyone seemed to enjoy. Being thrown into an experience with peers who only half spoke your language was a unique learning experience. We headed back as one to the community to enjoy lunch and then loaded cement bags and cinderblocks into the back of a truck to transport to the football field to make benches available for those wanting to watch the games. We then prepared food baskets for families of the scholars before heading back to the hotel to call it a day. Our reflection led us to realize that the deeper connections and relationships we began to make today may end up being a sad thing because of the fact that we only have 4 days left to spend with our new friends. It's a rose, thorn and a bud all in one.

Just a reminder that International Samaritan can only do so much with their current resources, so don’t forget to continue sharing the donation link in support! Here is the link:
