TEGUCIGALPA: DAY TWO

By Zoe Warr ‘25 and Elise Kittleson ‘25
Elise and Zoe here. Today was our first day in the community.
We were welcomed with a marching band, a dance performance with multiple acts, and decorated signs with our names. We spent some time reflecting tonight on encounter and what it means to be known and how names are a part of that. This community knowing our names and even writing them in giant pink letters with tie dye flowers glued next to felt like the ultimate form of acceptance. Not even acceptance, it was being embraced. We then spent the day getting the chance to learn their names and interests as well. We played board games, fútbol, potato sack races, and had hot coffee prepared with a little bit of sugar. Overall, it felt like the ultimate family gathering.
