We are a Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory high school serving more than 1700 young men and women in grades 9-12 in becoming Men and Women with and for Others.
With nearly 150 years of history behind us, we are a Roman Catholic educational community rooted firmly in the nearly 500-year-old model of Jesuit education, leading the way in preparing students for the 21st century.
Our unique educational model combines the advantages of single-sex instruction with opportunities for young men and women to collaborate, serve, pray and socialize together to form the whole person—mind, body and spirit.
The strength of Regis Jesuit is found in the depth and diversity of its broad community of students, parents and alumni who strengthen and share their gifts through a lifelong Raider experience.
The transformational student experience has been developed thanks to a long tradition of generous philanthropic support of our enduring educational mission.
Today at HighPointe we encountered many different clients with varied abilities. Navigating through these challenges with the clients was a new experience for everyone. We were able to spend a lot of time with the clients today and got to see how their day operates at HighPointe. One thing that we all noticed that was challenging was being patient and communicating with the clients.
Emma: One experience that I found particularly interesting, was talking about the book "Out of My Mind" with one of the clients. The classroom that I was in has been reading this novel, and one of the clients expressed to me that she relates to the experience of the main character, Melody, greatly. She explained to me that Melody and her own experiences are similar, and that reading the book allows her to relate, and makes her feel as though her voice is heard. Talking to the client about the novel was such a wonderful experience for me (as it is one of my favorite books too) and allowed me really to connect to her.
Graham: An experience that really had an effect on me today was watching all of the clients go through there day and be there sitting with them and interacting. I felt that this was impactful because I really got to understand how they operate, what they can and can't do. It also helped me to be more patient with not only them but with myself. In particular there are some clients that do not have full control over there speaking volume. When I would be with them, I would notice that it affected the people around them and cause them to lose focus. This also cause me to feel agitated and overwhelmed a little bit with everything going on. I just had to be patient with them and use helpful kind words that would uplift them.
In conclusion, this day brought a lot of new experiences, and we are really excited to see what comes next.
