Immersion Experience: Denver

DENVER IMMERSION DAY 4 PART 2

Charlotte Ringelman
Getting to work alongside my classmates and understand one another’s feelings and struggles has given us time for growth and reflection.
During these past couple of days I have spent a number of hours with different kinds of people and I am honored to say everyone I have had the chance to meet or be under the same roof as has been a huge influence on me. Getting to work alongside my classmates and understand one another’s feelings and struggles with what we had to see either in classrooms we’ve volunteered in has been a great time to reflect on what is right in front of us and what we should be thankful for. It’s given us a time for growth and reflection, to see each other and listen to one another, hear about each others day and how it was either a positive experience or negative experience or neither. I got to know other volunteers in the house we stayed in and while at first I was nervous to be sharing a house with strangers, these people treated us as though we had already been living with them and treated us just the same. I made connections and conversations with them during dinner time, shared desert, and helped clean the dishes with everyone in the hectic kitchen at the end of the night. While volunteering at Tennyson can be tiring it was all worth it to see the connections made at the end of the week, when finally I got to play with them at a game of sorry and read with another student aloud to the rest of the class before P.E. I hope to make many more connections like this in the future and I am thankful and grateful for everyone I met on this immersion.
