2017 Information

  1. Regis Jesuit Beginner Camp: Our school’s official beginner camp for current grades 6-8th will be May 23rd -25th from 4:30-6:00pm. This camp will cover (or recover) the basic skills needed for high school level play. While you might have some middle school experience, high school skills are more advanced, and this camp is the first step in teaching those. It’s also a chance to meet the Freshman Team Coach Mark Lewis, as he will be running the camp with the assistance of the varsity captains. The camp will include an official RJ Reversible Practice Jersey, team shirt, travel bag, mouthguard and field hockey ball. This is a great way to get to know your teammates well before the fall season and begin friendships that you will carry with you for the next four years.
  1. Aurora Field Hockey Club: Regis Jesuit is proud to partner with the Aurora Field Hockey Club to provide summer play three days a week through June and July. The AFHC Summer League meets Tuesday/Thursday from 7pm-8:30pm at Regis Jesuit for instructional training sessions, and Sundays from 6:00-7:30pm for scrimmages. Most of the Regis Jesuit coaching staff assists with the running of the league, as well as a slew of other coaches, including current collegiate players and former national team players. In terms of building experience in the sport, it doesn’t get much better than this. Please note that since this is a club event, all participants must be members of the United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA) in order to participate, which also allows participation in the summer, winter, and spring events.
  1. Rocky Mountain State Games Tournament: If you’d like to try out the sport on a more competitive level, the State Games Tournament is held every summer in Monument (northern Colorado Springs) over the weekend of July 21-23rd. The tournament features teams from around the state, and age appropriate competition (U16 Division). You’ll get to compete against other freshman/jv players in regulation length and officiated games. Registartion is again done through the AFHC, however you do NOT have to be USFHA members to participate since it is a state run tournament.
  1. Regis Jesuit Pre-season Camp: The full team preseason camp will be held at RJ August 7th-10th from 6am-9am. This camp serves to prepare all players for tryouts, which will run the following week on August 14-15 from 4-7pm. Anyone who wants to try out for the fall team is encouraged to attend. The camp is coached by all members of the Regis Jesuit Coaching Staff.

New Players

Head Coach: Spencer Wagner

Assistant Coaches: Monica Campos, Mark Lewis, Raina Cazier, Lauren Kellogg

Spencer Wagner grew up in Colorado Springs, CO and attended Cheyenne Mountain High School. He began playing field hockey at the age of six at a park near his house. During high school, he assisted his mother in coaching and managing the school’s field hockey team. He continued coaching there until his senior year of college, when he transferred to St. Mary’s Academy and helped them to win a state title. In 2009 he joined Regis Jesuit in starting its field hockey program and has coached here ever since. He loves playing field hockey almost as much as he loves coaching it, and he spent two years with the United States Junior National Team as well as one season at the University of Exeter, England. He graduated from the University of Denver with a Masters in Education and enjoys teaching math.
