GETTING TO WORK

by Zach Harlan '25 and May Mackenzie '25
Today was all about working for the community!
Today we had the chance to really get to work. I (Zach) got to head over to the renovation of what will soon be an affordable home for some very lucky people in the Kansas City area. I got to work with some pretty cool people, including a group of migrants from Myanmar who all had really interesting stories for me to hear. I also got to take down a wall with a sledgehammer and a drill, which is always really fun. It felt great to be so productive and do some work that will help some people who really need it.
I (May) was able to really experience nature while also working hard in the sun. I learned how to use some really cool tools like a pickaxe to take down some really bad invasive species in the park. I even pulled out the roots from this species with my BARE HANDS. It was great to be outside and get to know my sweet crew members as we walked up and down this mountain to take out these plants. Even though I was quite tired, by the end, I felt so proud of the work I put in throughout the day.
