DAY 2

Gigi Cox’25 & Mykah Pacheco’25
Our second day at Santiago Dominican Republic. Today we had lunch with migrant workers from Haiti and also got to explore a chocolate factory run by only women.
After breakfast we learned about Haitian and Dominicans relations and tensions between the two countries and peoples. This helps us preparing to the lunch at the banana farm with Haitians immigrants' workers. Our group felt uncomfortable with the language barrier, since some of the workers only spoke creole which is one of the two official languages of Haiti; because of this language disassociation, they were very shy.
Later we drove on Ilac's bus to Chocal; a chocolate factory run by women. We were warmly welcome with a nice cup of chocolate and followed by a tour of the factory and the processes from planting the cocoa trees all the way to the manufacturing of the chocolate.
Our ride back to Ilac, was fun for everyone, since we were able to converse and connect and even enjoy some drops of rainwater.
Finally, we had our nice warm dinner followed by our own thoughtful reflection to end the day.
